About Me I’m Emmitt Owens, a writer, songwriter, and independent creator from northwest Alabama. I write because stories, songs, and ideas have a way of finding me, and I’ve spent decades putting them into words. My work ranges from Southern storytelling and poetry to fiction, philosophy, satire, and music. Whether it’s a mountain ballad, a short story, or a full concept album, I enjoy creating projects that blend everyday life with imagination, humor, and a little backroad grit. I’m the creator of Buzzard Dust Mixtapes, a series of original albums featuring songs written between 1999 and 2026. Every lyric, every story, and every concept comes from my own experiences, observations, and creativity. The music draws inspiration from country roads, small-town life, forgotten places, and the people who make them memorable. Outside of music, I continue to write books, essays, poems, and fictional worlds that explore everything from faith and family to mystery, suspense, and the strange corners of the human experience.
