Bo Nicholson

Investment Adviser
Raleigh, NC

Bo Nicholson’s journey has been shaped by his deep connection to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was raised with his two brothers, William and Henry. The values his family and community instilled in him have influenced every aspect of his life, from his endeavors to his professional career. After high school, Bo left Raleigh for Athens, Georgia, to attend the University of Georgia. He graduated in 2010 with a degree from the Terry College of Business. While at UGA, he pursued his love for music and joined the band Mama’s Love. The band toured the Southeastern U.S. and recorded original music at Southern Ground in Atlanta, working with renowned producer John Keane. This time spent in the music industry taught him invaluable lessons in collaboration, perseverance, and creativity—skills that continue to inform his professional life. Though Bo eventually shifted away from music as a full-time career, it remains a significant part of his life. He performs regularly with Steamroom Etiquette, a local cover band in Raleigh, and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music gives him a sense of creative balance and personal fulfillment outside his demanding financial career. Bo began his professional career in 2012 when he joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the company’s rigorous Practice Management Development program, using traditional methods like cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars to build his client base. These early experiences helped him shape his approach to financial advising, which emphasizes building strong, lasting relationships with clients and offering proactive, service-oriented solutions. In 2016, Bo made a transition to Capital Investment Companies, where he partnered with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). He was drawn to FRM’s emphasis on client-first service and long-term relationships, and he quickly became an integral part of the team. Since joining, he has helped expand the firm’s advisory services to high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. FRM now operates in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach. Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, a distinction given to those who demonstrate exceptional client service. In addition to his work as a financial advisor, Bo co-hosts a weekly personal finance radio show that airs across the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show is dedicated to providing practical financial advice and making financial education more accessible and engaging for listeners. Bo’s financial planning philosophy revolves around clarity, trust, and a long-term outlook. He helps clients simplify complex financial decisions, reduce taxes, and make intentional choices to achieve their goals. Whether guiding clients through retirement planning, managing family wealth, or transitioning a business, he tailors his approach to fit each individual’s or family’s needs. On a personal note, Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018, and together, they have two children, Grove (born in 2021) and Bill (born in 2023), along with a yellow lab named Parker. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and exploring the North Carolina coast. His passion for music remains strong, and he continues to perform and attend shows whenever possible. Bo’s future is focused on continued growth, both professionally and personally. His commitment to helping others and building lasting relationships remains at the core of everything he does.
